Last week I had the amazing opportunity to take new headshots with photographer Matt Priestley of Sevenbright. I’ve known Matt for several months now, and was excited when he offered a session to help out a struggling designer.
I met Matt and his assistant Joel on Mill Ave and headed out to several locations. I was fascinated by the places he chose: colored brick walls, street corners with halos of light, hidden courtyards, and even an organic farmers’ market. In my years living and working in the area, I’d never noticed that these existed. It felt like I was rediscovering the Mill Ave that had become so dull and ordinary in my mind.
As we walked, Matt explained his shooting style and asked me questions about my design sensibilities. It was nice. He genuinely cared about my objectives along with his own artistic eye. And I will say, his eye is good. Matt notices the little things that make a photo rich, from unique texture and color to light play and lens flares. His confidence while shooting is impressive, and his processing and production of photography is beautiful. Undoubtedly, I would love to work with him again in the future.
